WESLEY CHURCH COUNCIL MEETING

on 11 July 2024

Report to Congregation

Office Staffing: In light of Kelle McNamara’s resignation, Cindy Ong has kindly agreed to increase her weekly hours to 25 until another staff member is hired. This change will better manage office workloads in the interim and enable Wesley Office to remain open every weekday.

Council recognised the overlap between Cindy’s role as Office Co-ordinator and Kelle’s role as Chief Operating Officer as well as backup and support Cindy and Kelle provided each other. Updating of outdated job descriptions will occur first before seeking a new staff member.

Wesley Music Foundation Board appointments: Council approved Bronwyn Brown, Jina Cha, and Robyn Dean as three new members of the WMF Board along with the reappointment of current members Don Whitbread and Glenda McDowall.

Thank you to congregational members who prayerfully considered the call for Board nominations and thanks to Susan Akhurst (Council Secretary) and Chris Emery (WMF Board Secretary) for initial handling of nominations. The Wesley Music Foundation is an important component of Wesley’s mission and outreach.

Pastoral Care Training Workshop: The Elders Group report on the Pastoral Care Training Workshop on 14-16 June 2024 was received. Council thanks Tarlie Alcock (Elders Facilitator) for organising, Helen Palmer for catering, and Rev. Bruce Stevens for presenting at the weekend workshop. The time commitment by participating elders is also greatly appreciated.

Sincere thanks to all who volunteer at Wesley: Council was reminded that Wesley heavily depends on volunteers who sometimes are co-opted at the last minute. The contributions of all volunteers are highly valued. Congregational members are asked to encourage and support volunteers involved with worship services (e.g., singers, musicians, AV personnel, stewards, and morning tea servers) and outside of Sunday activities (e.g., those who staff the Reception Desk; those who maintain the grounds, gardens, and property; and those involved with Elders, Wesley committees, and children and youth activities). New volunteers are always welcome.

In attendance: Susan Akhurst, Tarlie Alcock, Paul Chen, Sonia Di Mezza, Rev. Geoff Dornan, Jan Sismey (Chair), John Sutton.

Apologies: Jenny Dean, Keith Hart, Robert James.
